Wifi Router Outdoor Antennas

Share your internet connection with omni-directional wifi antenna to increase wireless range. Mount an outside wifi antenna to maximize the use of your signal.

Antenna to Increase Wi-Fi Range

If you are a generous person, your internet reception, whether cable, DSL, or whatever, may not be used to full useability. As high speed internet connections increase in speed, many more computer users can be supported by the speed. And if you use your internet occasionally, or for a few hours daily, you may be able to share your high speed internet connection with others around you. And you can all share the expense of the connection.

Omni-directional Wifi Antenna

If you are interested in running an internet hotspot, other computers around you will need to receive your signal. A strong signal is critical the the plan, of course. One of the most effective ways to transmit a strong wireless signal is to transmit from an external antenna. Preferably the antenna will be mounted in an elevated or high place. You will want to shop for the best price on an external antenna, probably omni-directional. The best prices and best technology seems to pop up on Ebay. Why, I don’t know but you will probably find it there. Your friend can boost your signal with a wireless internet antenna, a wifi antenna for laptop easily connected to their USB port.

Outside Wifi Antenna

Though you may need to mount your antenna outside, or in a central point to your friends if inside, you need to design the antenna placement with the shortest possible cable between your wifi router and the new antenna. Tech experts recommend a cable length of six feet or less. Remember to choose weatherproof equipment for outdoor use.

Some tech experts search for router firmware and software to be able to sell access to the hotspot. (Not for beginners and in violation of most intenet access contracts.)

Even if you are a generous person, you will want to limit access to your high speed account. You can leave access to your wi-fi router open without encryption, thus available to anyone, but this is not the best security choice.

If you set up your wifi router with the MAC address feature, anyone who uses your wifi account will need to provide you with their MAC address. You will then add their unique MAC addresses to your router’s list of approved users. Then you can share the expense of the highspeed connection.

If you do not want to be bothered with inputting your neighbor’s MAC addresses into your router information data, then you can have them sign on with a WPA key which you provide. When you set up your wi-fi router, you will select a WPA key, similar to a password. This is the password or key that you will provide to your neighbors.

This one is for the techy experts but worth mentioning. You will probably need an outside wifi antenna for this one. The Captive Portal concept will allow you to sell your internet access without providing passwords or staying on top of MAC addresses. Commercial hotspots such as airports or coffee shops use Captive Portals and they direct you to a web page where you sign up (and pay) for the wifi connection. If you are clever, you can do the same. You can post your price for internet useage as well as providing an automated way of collecting for the use. Paypal seems to be an easy secure way to take payment.

The omni-directional wifi antenna will transmit your wireless signal in many directions to maximize broadcast effectiveness. And your users who ordinarily would be out of range of your signal can boost their reception with the wireless internet antenna.
